Probe into alleged sexual abuse complaint by female student at Rantambe camp

The Hasalaka Police have begun an investigation into an incident where a female student of a leading girls’ school in Kandy who had gone to the Rantambe training camp for cadet band training, was allegedly sexually abused in the camp.

The investigation was initiated based on a call received by the Police Emergency Unit.

Police said that no evidence has been received so far to verify whether the complaint is true as even the CCTV camera systems have not recorded any related scenes.

The student in question has stated that while she was staying in the camp, at around 1 a.m. on March 7, a person came and touched her leg and ran away. She said as it was pitch dark she could not recognise the person. Another student said that she saw the shadow of a person who had crept into the room under the cover of darkness.The investigation into the incident is being conducted under the direction of Teldeniya Senior Superintendent of Police M.B.Palihawadana.
