Suspect with 700 counterfeit 5,000 rupee notes arrested

The Police Special Task Force on Thursday arrested a suspect with 700 counterfeit 5000 rupee notes worth Rs.3.5 million. The Police Special Task Force found this stock of notes and arrested the suspect according to information received from the Army Intelligence Division.

The 40-year-old man was taken into custody together with the stock of counterfeit notes which was hidden in a house in Pudukuduirippu Devipuram.

The Special Task Force stated that the suspect is a resident of Anbulipuram, Trincomalee.

The stock of notes had been hidden in his wife ‘s house. These notes were printed under three batch numbers.During this raid, the Special Task Force also found two colour printers which were alleged to have been used in printing the notes.

During the inspection of this house, a sword was also found together with the stock of currency notes.

The mobile phone which was in the possession of the suspect and the printers were handed over to the Pudukuduirippu Police for investigation.

This raid was carried out by a team of police officers including Inspector of Police, Commanding Officer of the Second Camp of the Mullaitivu Camp of the Special Task Force, P. H. D. C. Kumarasinghe, under the guidance of Regional Commanding Officer Assistant Superintendent of Police K. G. G. G. Nishantha, supervised by Jaffna Zone Commanding Officer Senior Superintendent of Police K. R. M. Sumanawardena on instructions and advice of Commander of the Special Task Force, DIG, Attorney-at-Law Waruna Jayasundera.
