Hospital security guard assaulted by two employees

A security guard on duty at the main gate of the Panadura Base Hospital has been hospitalised after being assaulted by two hospital employees, a hospital spokesperson said.

A 62-year-old H.A. Sunil Perera, a father of two and a resident of Madupitiya, Panadura, who had been on duty as security guard at the main gate of the Panadura Base Hospital that night, was admitted to the hospital. The Panadura South Police said that investigations are being conducted to arrest the two hospital employees based on a complaint received at around 11.05 p.m on Thursday (09).

The Police said that it was stated in the complaint that the security officer who was assaulted had gone to a hotel opposite the hospital to have a cup of tea at around 10.30 p.m. He was then grabbed by the collar and assaulted.

Police also said that two employees of the Panadura Kethumathi Women’s Hospital and Panadura Basic Hospital were allegedly involved in the assault.

A hospital spokesperson said that one of the hospital employees who was allegedly involved in the assault of the security guard was also involved in the assault of Ajantha De Silva, the Chief Ward Warden of the Panadura Basic Hospital two months ago. Investigations into this incident are being carried out by Officer-In-Charge of the Crimes Division, Chief Inspector of Police Wijetunga, under the guidance of Headquarters Inspector of Police Upul Priyankara Nawulla based on instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Samantha Wedage and Assistant Superintendent of Police Nishantha Senaratne.
