Omicron COVID-19 variant causing deaths again - DDG

Although there have been no reports of COVID-19 deaths in the past, a covid death is reported every three to four days during these days, Health Services Deputy Director General Dr. Hemantha Herath said yesterday.

He said that several patients who are in critical condition due to Covid infection are being treated in intensive care units and some of them are recovering and some are dying due to complications.

He said that the Omicron Covid virus has started to spread again in the countries of the world and there is a risk of the virus coming to this country at any time due to a global pandemic.

He said that people should take steps to get the Covid booster vaccines within this month and if they do so, the person will get immunity to protect themselves from the virus for another six months.

He also said that the lack of Covid-infected people over the past period was due to people following health advice properly and getting the anti-Covid vaccines.
