Husband confesses killing wife in Lankapura

The husband of the Lankapura Divisional Secretariat’s Administrative Officer who was stabbed on Monday (4) admitted that he committed the crime over a money issue yesterday.

The suspect had confessed it after he was arrested on suspicion by the Pulasthipura Police yesterday. Following an intensive interrogation, the police had recovered the axe used to assault and kill the victim from a nearby land.

The suspect Kapila Bandara works as a watchman of the Kegalugama Junior School in Lankapura. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the duo has had a dispute for some time over an amount of money the husband had lent to another person. As confessed by him, the husband and wife have had an argument over the incident on Sunday (3) night also while he was under the influence of alcohol.

Later, he had assaulted the wife with an axe while she was asleep on Monday early morning. After killing the wife, the suspect had thrown the axe in to a land nearby and had informed the neighbours that a thief broke into the house and committed the crime.
