'Grenade attack could have happened on Shimla Police Headquarters': Pro-Khalistan group warns Himachal Chief Minister

New Delhi:

A day after a rocket-grenade was fired at the Intelligence Wing headquarters of the Punjab Police in Mohali, Khalistani outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) warned Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur that the attack could also hit the Shimla Police Headquarters.

“This grenade attack could have happened on Shimla Police Headquarters,” SFJ’s self-styled lawyer General Gurpatwant Singh Pannoon warned in an audio message.

The group asked the Himachal Pradesh chief minister to learn a lesson from the Mohali grenade attack, saying the Sikh community should not be instigated.

What happened in Mohali?

A rocket-propelled grenade was fired at the Intelligence Wing headquarters of the Punjab Police in Mohali on Monday, triggering an explosion that shattered windows. However, no one was injured in the attack.

In a statement after the incident, Mohali police said, “A minor explosion was reported at around 7:45 pm at Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters Sector 77, SAS Nagar. No damage reported. Senior officials are at the spot and the matter is being probed. Forensic teams have been called.”

The blast has once again created panic over security in the border state, which is witnessing a high influx of explosives, weapons and drugs from across the border via drones.

Sources said the two suspects arrived in a white colored Swift DZire car and launched the RPG from a distance of about 80 meters from the intelligence office building. During the investigation of the case, the police found around 7,000 mobile phones from three mobile phone towers near the blast site.
