Prison Guards’ Assn. President suspended

The President of the Prison Guards’ Association has been suspended for publishing a provocative letter using the official letterhead of the Association in his facebook page protesting against the prison administration.

He had earlier been warned by the Commissioner General of Prisons (Operations) and the Commissioner General of Prisons (Administration) for not wearing the uniform while on duty.

He had told the Commissioners that the previous Commissioner General of Prisons had allowed him to wear plain clothes.

Although the Prisons Commissioners asked the President of the Prisons Guards Association to submit the permission given to him in this regard the said officer had failed to produce any such document.

Shortly after taking this step, he had posted a provocative note on his Facebook account against the prison administration as well as other prison officials.

Prisons Commissioner (Administration and Rehabilitation) Prisons Media Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake stated that he had published this note using the official letterhead of the Prison Guards Association and that after all these facts, this guard had been suspended subject to a disciplinary inquiry.
