Drone operations help nab 117 quarantine violators

Drone operations to conduct surveillance on the residents in isolated areas will continue and 117 suspects had so far been arrested following drone operations, acting Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stated.

The DIG highlighted that additional Police officers would be deployed to monitor areas that are under isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Twenty four Police areas in the Gampaha and Colombo Districts continue to remain under isolation. DIG Ajith Rohana stated that a special intelligence operation was carried out in isolated areas on Thursday (19).

The Police Spokesperson observed that residents of some areas have not adhered to the quarantine rule, regulations and restrictions that are in effect.

The DIG stated that 358 suspects have been arrested since October 30 for not wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing in public areas. He reiterated that health safety measures must be observed at public and private institutions, offices and factories to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

DIG Ajith Rohana urged supervisors and managers at those institutions, offices and factories to ensure that the health and safety protocols are strictly followed.
