Two soldiers arrested for keeping revolver

The Lunugala Police on Tuesday took into custody two Army soldiers together with a revolver manufactured in Germany, on Tuesday (14). 

One was a retired Navy soldier while the other was a soldier who had been removed from the Army. The police said that both soldiers were residents of Lunugala.

According to information that the retired Navy man had the firearm found in the house he was residing in at the Kiwule village in Lunugala was searched.When he was arrested and questioned, he had said that he had bought the firearm for Rs.20,000.

During further investigations it had been revealed that it was the soldier who had been removed from the Army who had sold him the firearm. Accordingly, the police arrested the army soldier as well, resident at Palle Wanguwa, Lunugala.

This firearm had been received by him through another party. The police said that investigations are underway regarding this as well. Lunugala Police said that subsequent to the suspects being produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court yesterday (15), they were remanded in custody until March 23.
