BOC, People’s Bank unhindered by strike action

The management and staff of state-owned banks have taken steps to carry out activities of these banks despite  certain groups are trying to disrupt daily work by carrying out strikes.

Accordingly, the management of the two state-owned commercial banks in Sri Lanka, the Bank of Ceylon and the People’s Bank, said that they operated as normal.

Bank of Ceylon General Manager Russell Fonseka said that banking services in 265 branches including all sections of the Bank of Ceylon head office were operated as normal to serve the public.

Apart from that, 272 of the 340 branches of the People’s Bank were fully operational yesterday (15) and by 10.30 am staff attendance exceeded 75 percent, People’s Bank’s Acting Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Clive Fonseka confirmed.
