A car driven by a consultant doctor at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital had veered off the road and rolled into the lake at the Kandy Lake roundabout.
The doctor and his wife had sustained minor injuries and had been admitted to the Kandy National Hospital. They had obtained treatment and left the hospital in the morning yesterday (5) .
The accident had taken place at around 12.30am yesterday (5). The doctor’s wife who was injured slightly in the accident is also a doctor at the Kandy National Hospital. The car which had fallen into the lake had been under water and those present had broken the windows of the car and taken the doctor and his wife out.
It has been discovered that the accident occurred due to a mechanical fault in the car.
The Kandy Police Traffic Division is investigating the accident.
