A 77-year-old person convicted for sexually abusing a 15-year-old child was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige.
He was also ordered to pay a compensation of Rs.100,000 to the child in addition to a fine of Rs.20,000.
The Attorney General filed indictments against the accused in the Colombo High Court.
Stating that the prosecution has been proved beyond reasonable doubt, the judge issued this verdict and said that considering the age of the accused, a lenient prison sentence will be imposed.
Attorney-at-Law Asitha Vipulanayake, who appeared for the accused, told the Court that the accused regretted the incident at this point and asked for a lenient sentence considering his age.
