Pawan Khera Arrest: Supreme Court directs Dwarka Court to grant interim bail, Issues warning

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Dwarka court to grant interim relief to Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera who was arrested by the Assam Police earlier in the day.

The top court also issued notice to the Assam Police and Uttar Pradesh Police on Congress leader Pawan Khera’s plea seeking clubbing of FIRs. The apex court said till the next date of hearing, the petitioner will be released on interim bail by Dwarka court.

Appearing for the Congress leader, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi sought interim relief for Khera and consolidation of FIR since several are being registered across the country.

At least 15 cases were registered against the Congress leader in 15 districts, as per the media reports.

Singhvi further mentioned that Khera will tender unconditional apology for the controversial statement regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which the latter made during a press conference in Lucknow.

The advocate pointed out that the Congress leader went to Twitter to calrify that he had made a genuine mistake.

Earlier in the day, Congress spokesperson was deplanned from Delhi-Raipur Indigo flight allegedly without being provided with a valid reason at the Delhi Airport. Later, the Assam Police arrested the Congress leader, which provoked the party leaders to protest at the airport itself.

Within no time, the Congress moved to the Supreme Court seeking for the bail to its spokesperson.
