The work of a police officer in Chilaw, who had allegedly put a false record on the police log book that a complaint was withdrawn, has been interdicted by the Nattandiya Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on Saturday.
The complaint was by a witness of a drug-related case being heard in Chilaw High Court over a threat faced by him on August 10, 2022 inside the Court premises, asking not to name witnesses before Court. The Chilaw Police arrested the suspect who threatened the witness following the complaint. When the case was taken up recently, the Police informed the Court that the complaint had been withdrawn, but the plaintiff said that he had not. Thereafter, an investigation was conducted into the matter on the orders of the Court. It was found out during the investigation that a police officer had put a false record on the police log book on August 22, 2022, stating that the complaint was withdrawn.
The Police said legal action would be taken against the suspended police officer for misleading the Court.
