Nursing, Medical and Engineering Retirement Age 63

Although it has been decided to reduce the retirement age of public servants to 60 years, the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government says that the limit will not affect selected essential professions.

Its secretary M.M.P.K. Mayadune mentioned that several professions including medicine, nursing and engineering will be removed from that limit.
The secretary mentioned that amendments will be brought to the cabinet so that those engaged in those professions will be able to work till the age of 63.
 
He mentioned that the rest of the group will retire on December 31st.
 
The Ministry Secretary says that the related circular will be issued within the next fortnight.
 
Accordingly, he said that more than twenty thousand people are going to retire at the end of this year.
