Private buses say fuel quota not enough

Several private bus associations threatened to strike from today claiming that their buses have not been provided with sufficient fuel under the QR system.

All Ceylon Private Bus Companies Federation, Inter-Provincial Bus Owners’ Association, Podujana Eksath Bus Owners’ Association and All Ceylon Island Bus Owners’ Association will join the strike.

They pointed out that 40 liters of fuel supplied to them per week is not adequate to operate buses and large numbers of people engaged in this industry have suffered a lot due to this.

The All Ceylon Bus Passengers’ Association claimed that the reduction of bus fare by 11.14 percent and the minimum bus fare from Rs.38 to Rs.34.from midnight yesterday was not enough. It said the fare should have been reduced more to provide concessions to the people.
