Station Masters call off strike

Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters’ Union yesterday suspended their 48-hour trade union action following the discussion held with Sri Lanka Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara.

Railway station masters commenced a 48-hour union action on July 24 from 6pm yesterday against the train fares revision to be implemented from yesterday and they had refrained from issuing railway tickets.They demanded the authorities to implement the proposed fare hike from August 1. However, after a special discussion held yesterday with the Railway authorities, they have decided to call off the strike.

The Railways General Manager said he will initiate action against officials failing to issue tickets to commuters.
