Cabinet Spokesman, Transport and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said that by next week, around 1,000 repaired buses will be put into operation and another 100 buses will be added for school service.
The minister said this while attending the Cabinet press conference held at the Government Information Department yesterday (5). Minister Gunawardena also said that in the future, as a pilot project, they hope to implement this project in Colombo and Gampaha areas by employing a female conductor for school buses.
The minister also said that he is looking forward to implementing an electric bus project around Colombo. The transport minister also pointed out that transport problems cannot be solved in two or three weeks. He said that due to the existing fuel problem, there has been a huge demand for public transport and that supply cannot be provided.
