Fine for selling rice above MRP

The Jaffna High Court fined 32 large-scale traders and paddy mill owners in Jaffna who sold rice at a rate higher than the controlled price.

The High Court imposed a fine of Rs 32 million on the traders.

The Consumer Affairs Authority officials produced in court 186 traders and mill owners who sold rice at higher rates and another 479 who failed to exhibit prices at which the commodities were sold.

The Court convicted 32 of them. The rest were granted bail and the cases were postponed for future dates.
