Container Depot catches fire in Bangladesh; 20 dead, 450 injured

New Delhi:

A massive fire broke out after an explosion at a private container depot in Chittagong region of Bangladesh on Saturday night. At least 20 people being killed in this accident, while more than 450 people have been injured. 

This accident took place in Kadamrasul area of Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong. At least 20 people were burnt to death after a fire broke out at the BM Container Depot located here. Those injured in this accident have been admitted to the hospital.

Istakul Islam, the head of the health and services department in Chittagong, said the death toll in other hospitals could be higher. According to fire service sources, three of their employees also died during the incident. The identity of the dead is yet to be ascertained.

It is being told that this fire started around 9 pm on Saturday night. While efforts were being made to douse the fire, there was a loud explosion at 11:45 am. Due to the presence of chemicals in a container, the fire spread from one container to another. Nearby buildings were shaken due to the explosion and the windows of the houses were shattered.
