The Indian government would supply 65,000 tonnes of urea fertiliser for the 2022 Yala season on 06 July, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.

He said that the upgrading of infrastructure required for the supply of fertiliser for the 2022 Yala season and the 2022/23 Maha season had been discussed at length on Friday.

“This stock of urea fertiliser was ordered by the government of India from Oman for paddy and maize cultivation in that country,” he added.

He said the government had taken steps to provide 50,000 tonnes of urea for paddy cultivation and 10,000 tonnes of it for maize cultivation. Arrangements have been made to distribute the urea fertiliser to the farming community shortly after its deliver.
