he Toyota Compact Cruiser EV was first viewed late last year along with 15 other electric vehicles as part of the future plans for Toyota and Lexus Lexus. The two companies already had detailed plans to launch 30 new electric vehicles by 2030.
The Toyota Compact Cruiser EV has now gone on to win the 2022 Car Design Award for used cars in Milan, Italy, thus prompting Toyota to release more photos of the SUV-focused, rear-facing SUV. Winners and other finalists in this category include Audi Skysphere, Porsche Mission R, Volvo Concept Recharge, Polestar O2, Lexus Electrified Sport, IED Alpine A4810, and more.
Toyota Compact Cruiser EV highlights of design
The Compact Cruiser EV was created by Toyota Europe Design development center in Nice, France. Note that the concept SUV is not yet out of the flesh, and the prototype with the life size shown here is just an unchanging clay model, as evidenced by the black accent in the windows.
In terms of its design, the Compact Cruiser EV is clearly inspired by the first generation of the famous Toyota Land Cruiser models, and is reminiscent of the FJ Cruiser since 2006.
Previously, paired with a retro theme, the Compact Cruiser EV has a Toyota grille in the center with a horizontal LED headlights, which lends itself to a J80 Land Cruiser-like face. Then there is the large front bumper with a large silver skid plate and outer, square wheels that clearly announce their off-road purpose. The bonnet is flat and has a wide, medium air.

In the profile, the most prominent is the heavy body wear and the prominent kink in the window line. The contrasting C-pillar color and the black A-pillar also give the roof a floating effect. Meanwhile, a side ladder and a bespoke roof rack add to the durability of the car. Retro style wheels wearing hiking tires are a good touch.
At the back, the Compact Cruiser EV gets black LED headlights, Toyota lettering on the tailgate and, most importantly, a roof rack extension on the tailgate itself. Just like the front, the rear bumper is also about the same size and features a bright silver skid plate.
Toyota Compact Cruiser EV technical details
So far, Toyota has been keeping a close eye on the technical details of the Compact Cruiser EV. However, it is expected to be based on the electric version of the Toyota TNGA stadium which also supports the larger bZ4x SUV. In the production specification, it is expected to have a dual-motor set-up with all-wheel-drive as usual. While it may only make sense right now, the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV will likely enter production sometime in the coming years. When launched, the Compact Cruiser EV could be the electric competitors in the Ford Bronco Sport and the next Jeep Renegade in global markets.
The next Toyota is launched in India
Back home, Toyota is preparing to enter the mid-range SUV segment with the much-anticipated Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which will be launched worldwide on July 1, with a market launch in the Diwali area. Toyota is also working on the next version of the Innova which may see light during this holiday season. It will be very different from the current Toyota Innova Crysta, which will continue to be sold with the new model. In addition, the Urban Cruiser compact SUV may also have significant improvements in the coming months following the launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza.
