The Agnipath scheme of the central government is being opposed across the country. The protests have turned violent. Students have taken to the streets at many places in Bihar where a train has been set on fire.

In Haryana’s Rohtak, a student committed suicide in protest against this scheme. The youth committed suicide by hanging himself in a room of Rohtak’s PG Hostel. The name of the young man was Sachin. He is a resident of Lijwana village of Jind district. Here, students who were creating a ruckus in Palwal burnt three police vehicles.

Students angry with the Agnipath scheme in are on the streets in Uttar Pradesh (UP) as well. Students of Lucknow University demonstrated in the university campus itself. These students are preparing to march till the Raj Bhavan. In Unnao’s Shuklaganj, youths protested at Marhala crossroads. 

The youth took placards and posters in their hands and raised slogans of Defense Minister and Modi, Yogi Murdabad. Army recruitment candidates created a ruckus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing a road show in Dharamsala. During this, youth have come out on the streets. The youth are protesting on the new scheme Agneepath. However, the protesters were stopped from going to Dharamsala. 

Meanwhile, in Gurugram, Haryana, students have blocked the Delhi-Jaipur highway in protest against the Agneepath scheme.

Violence in Bihar

The demonstration of candidates against the Agnipath scheme is going on in many districts of Bihar for the second day as well. On Thursday, the train was stopped in Jehanabad, Buxar and Nawada. There is a fierce demonstration after the road arson in Chhapra and Munger. These people say that the government should withdraw its decision.

The students raised slogans against the PM Modi government and also disrupted railway traffic. The students have stopped trains at many stations. Tyres have also been burnt on the highway at many places, due to which traffic has been disrupted.

Traffic on the Gaya-Patna main road in the Jehanabad district of Bihar was briefly affected due to the protest by the students.

Protests against the Agnipath scheme were also witnessed in the Munger district of Bihar. Here the students staged protest and indulged in violence at the Safiasarai Chowk. Due to this, the traffic on the highway and Jamalpur Munger Road came to a complete halt.

In the Saharsa district of Bihar, protesters blocked the railway track. Due to this, two express trains were forced to remain standing at the station. The passengers had to face a lot of problems.

In Chhapra, protesting youth burnt tyres and damaged a bus.

What is the demand of the protesters?

The protesters want the present system of recruitment into the armed forces to continue. 

“We work hard to get inducted into the Armed forces. How will the service be for 4 years, with months of training and leaves? How will we protect the nation after getting trained for just 3 years? Govt has to take back this scheme,” said a protestor.

Another protestor in Jehanabad, Bihar said, “Where will we go after working for only 4 years?… we will be homeless after 4 years of service. So we have jammed the roads; the country’s leaders will now get to know that people are aware.”
