An unruly protest in the Panadura area which completely obstructed traffic on the Colombo-Galle main road on Wednesday was dispersed by Panadura area residents. The protest which was led by some local politicians was launched against the fuel price hike and the shortage of fuel supplies.
They had blocked the Galle Road, Panadura-Horana Road and several by roads from the centre of the Panadura town highly inconveniencing the public. A group of youth from the area who were angered by blocking of the roads later took the initiative to disperse the crowds and remove all obstacles laid across the roads.
The effort by the group of youth came in for high praise from the public who witnessed the incident and also from motorists and passenger bus drivers who were inconvenienced by the blocking of roads.
