Kashmir: Most terrorists get killed within 3 months of becoming active, says police

Srinagar:

A total of 62 terrorists have been killed in the Union Territory so far this year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has said. All these terrorists were killed by the security forces in various encounters.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir said that out of these 62 terrorists, 39 belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), 15 to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), 6 to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and 2 to Al-Badr.

IGP Vijay Kumar further said that 47 of the slain militants were local terrorists, while 15 were foreign terrorists.

The IGP said, “Due to enhanced human intelligence, technical intelligence and focused operations, the survival rate of terrorists is coming down drastically. Out of 62 terrorists killed so far in the current year, 32 terrorists are in the ranks only.”

The remarks came on a day when two terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Mitrigam area of Pulwama.

IGP Kumar said the two terrorists killed were involved in attacks in which non-J&K civilians such as laborers were killed or injured in the Pulwama district in the months of March and April this year. Both have been identified as Ejaz Hafiz and Shahid Ayub. Both were locals and belonged to the al-Badr terror outfit.

In a tweet, the IGP said, “Both the slain terrorists identified as Ejaz Hafiz and Shahid Ayub of Al-Badr organization are local terrorists. 2 AK-47 rifles were recovered from them. They were killed in the month of March-April 2022. Involved in attacks on outside laborers in Pulwama.”

The main terrorist groups based in Pakistan operating in Jammu and Kashmir include Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen. In the past few years, especially after the abrogation of Article 370, the security forces have intensified anti-terrorist operations in the Kashmir Valley and most of the top leadership of these terrorist groups have been eliminated in a major success for the country.

The number of terrorist attacks in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has come down significantly, but there are occasions when terrorists manage to carry out attacks despite security deployment.
