New Travel Industry Support Scheme to be introduced

The Government will introduce a new Travel Industry Support Scheme to encourage tourist hotels and travel agents to attract more tourists to the country.

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that a Cabinet Memorandum in this regard will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers this week. The main aim of this project is to increase the revenue gained by the tourism industry by attracting more tourists to the country.

This support scheme will be introduced to Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and Online Travel Agents (OTAs) to help them in their endeavour.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau has allocated Rs.400 million for the implementation of this project, which is part of the Government’s initiatives of providing subsidies to industrialists to revive the industry,”the Minister said.

“The scheme will defiantly encourage the people engaged in the industry and also providing huge benifits in short and long terms,” he added.
