Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) National Organizer Tissa Attanayake said the government has given relief to only a select few at a time when all Sri Lankans need relief.
He said that instead of a small group including public servants, the government should focus on an economic programme that would provide relief to the entire populace in the country.
He was speaking to the media in Kandy yesterday (09).
“The Samagi Jana Balawegaya is not against giving relief to the people. But in the current economic context it is a question of how to provide relief. The 21 million people in the country are in dire straits. Paying Rs. 5000.00 to public servants and retirees will not solve the problems of the entire population. How can the government, which has not even been able to cover the budget deficit, provide more relief? Printing money and giving it to the people will aggravate the problems of the country. Further escalation of the cost of living is inevitable,” he added.
