JVP stands with teachers and principals - Tilvin

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) is not behind the struggle of teachers and principals but stands with them in the vanguard, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said.

Silva was responding to a question by a journalist at the JVP Headquarters in Battaramulla yesterday over the accusations by the Government that the JVP was behind the Teacher-Principal strike action. “The struggle of teachers and principals is justifiable. We support their campaign. It is the ruling party which politicized this problem by including it in its election manifesto. Now they have to deliver. Without complaining that we are taking a political advantage out of this issue, why does not the Government deliver on its promises and take credit for them?,” he asked.

He also said that the decision by the teachers and principals to report to duty on Monday was a correct and commendable decision. “With this decision, they defeated the plans of the Government to provoke the people against teachers and principals. Teachers are ready to come to work and the right minded citizens of the country should support them to win their rights,” he commented.
