Decision on quarantine curfew today

The decision on extending or lifting the current quarantine curfew by Monday will be taken today (3).

Health Services Director-General Dr Asela Gunawardena, said the decision will be taken by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 presided by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today.

Currently, the countrywide curfew is in effect until September 6, Monday 4.00 am. Following a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths, a countrywide quarantine curfew was imposed at midnight on August 20.

The new development has pushed the official death toll  from the virus outbreak in Sri Lanka to over 9,400. As many as 376,216 recoveries have been confirmed since the outbreak of the pandemic, and the number of people receiving further treatment is 58 514. 56, 562 patients are currently receiving home-based medical care.

In the last 24 hours, 13,336 PCR tests and 4,345 rapid antigen tests were performed in the country. The total number of confirmed cases in the country is 444,130. According to the Epidemiology Unit the number of people who have taken both vaccine doses has exceeded 8.5 million, and the number who received a single dose of the vaccine is 12,564,209.
