Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (Rtd.) Dr. Sarath Weerasekera yesterday said that the laws will be amended to deter those who make statements, which damage inter-ethnic reconciliation and promote extremism and terrorism.
He said that this does not mean freedom of speech in the Constitution will be curtailed.
He said that new laws are needed as some false statements and news published on social media damage unity and reconciliation among the communities.
