Two including a Sub Inspector were killed after a vehicle mowed them down in Rajagiriya yesterday, Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The incident occurred when police officers were inspecting vehicles near the Ayurveda Roundabout for worn out tyres. A speeding van had collided with the SI and the lorry driver who were by the roadside yesterday morning.
A 52-year-old Sub Inspector (SI) attached to the Police Emergency Unit and 36 year old assistant of a small lorry which was being inspected at the time were killed.
The driver of the van has been arrested. Another Police officer who had sustained injuries in the accident was admitted to the Colombo General Hospital. The van in police custody.
