People gave us with two thirds majority to fulfill election pledges – State Minister Duminda

“We have been given 2/3 majority in Parliament. Now we are duty bound to fulfill the election pledges without playing same old record that out of date rulers and officials did by hindering people friendly programmes,” Renewable Energy Sources Development State Minister Duminda Dissanayake said.

The State Minister was addressing the gathering at a ceremony held to handover letters of appointments to 299 low income and less educated youth in the Anuradhapura District recently.

The jobs were provided under the programme granting 100,000 jobs for youth belonging to the families below poverty level in terms of the President’s Saubagye Dekma National Development Agenda.

State Minister Dissanayake said that under the first phase of the 100,000 jobs programme, 30,000 persons will be trained in various trades and after the training, they will be absorbed in to permanent Government service in various fields.

“Every Government in power did not plan to employ less educated persons from less privileged families. They suffered untold hardships without any permanent income. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa decided to provide jobs to them. This is revolutionary and a daring,” he said.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, nder the instructions of the President, we provided jobs for nearly 60,000 without any discrimination or expecting any political advantage. Now we are facing the resurgence of the coronavirus as we are endeavouring to recover from the first COVID -19 attack.

Therefore, every person should follow the COVID-19 healthcare rules and regulations without dragging the country into further calamities, the State Minister said.
