Minimum age for marriage 18: First Private Members’ Bill of new Parliament handed over

The first Private Members’ Bill of the 09th Parliament of Sri Lanka was handed over to Parliament by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Premitha Thennakoon today.

MP Thennakoon said the Private Members’ Bill was handed over to the Secretary- General of Parliament Dammika Dassanayake yesterday (26).

The main objective of the Bill is to introduce the minimum age of marriage in Sri Lanka as 18, he said.

MP Premitha Thennakoon said that children from all communities must be given equal rights, adding that it was essential to immediately implement this law. (Newswire)
