A married couple was arrested along with 315 grams of cannabis and Rs. 26,000 on a tip off in Babiyawa, Medirigiriya yesterday by Medirigiriya police. A small lorry was also seized, police said.
The couple has been peddling cannabis throughout Medirigiriya in the guise of supplying festival goods for many years, police said.
They are residents of New Town, Medirigiriya. Aged 49 and 55, the couple has been providing cannabis to many dealers in Medirigiriya, New Town, Abagaswewa, Meegaswewa, Diyasenpura, Palliyagodella, Babiyawa and Wadigawewa, police said. The suspects have been arrested and produced before court many a time, police said.
They will be produced before Higurakgoda Magistrate today, Medirigiriya police said.
