Mangala, Sagala will vote for SLPP - Premier

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that many followers of former Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Matara District leader Mangala Samaraweera and former chief of staff at the Prime Minister’s Office Sagala Rathnayaka will vote for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) at the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.

The Prime Minister was addressing an election meeting held by former MP Manoj Sirisena in Akuressa on Saturday (11).

The Prime Minister was in the Matara District on Saturday to address a series of meetings in support of the SLPP candidates of Nupe, Yatiyana, Makandura, Mulatyana, Hakmana, Deniyaya, Pitabeddara, Panadugama, Akuressa and Weligama.

“Sagala Rathnayaka is not contesting and Mangala Samaraweera has withdrawn, so their followers are in a quandary,” Rajapaksa said.

He added that the UNP and SJB supporters were well aware that the two factions were showing their strength at the forthcoming election to claim ‘Sirikotha’ rather than winning the election,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that supporters at grassroots level were more concerned in improving their lives rather than engaging in the internal power struggle of the party.

“With even opposition parties commending President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s administration, the majority of the voters of the Matara District will definitely endorse the President’s vision,” he said.
