‘Weapons given to LTTE to ensure defeat of IPKF’

Ranasainghe Premadasa’s Government provided weapons to the terrorist organization LTTE in order to ensure the repatriation of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF), acknowledged then government minister Gamini Jayawickrema Perera.

He was addressing a meeting in Kurunegala on Sunday.

He also added that when India was creating Provincial Councils they also got into an agreement with LTTE leader Prabhakaran.

Perera also claimed that when Ranasinghe Premadasa was campaigning for the Presidential election he pledged that he will expel Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF). The IPKF had influenced then Chief Minister of North Eastern Province Vardaraja Perumal to form his own ‘army’ and to declare a separate flag for the North Eastern Province instead of the Sri Lankan National Flag.

Nevertheless Premadasa was not keen to deploy the Sri Lankan Army against this force.

At that time Premadasa was holding peace talks with Prabhakaran, Jayawickrema Perera added.

Furthermore he said that Premadasa provided weapons to LTTE in order to defeat IPKF, as a result of which the IPKF had to leave the country.
