‘Revamping education sector, government’s top priority’

Gampaha District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said yesterday that the government is to give priority to broadening educational and higher educational opportunities.

Addressing an election meeting in Gampaha, recently, he said that the education system in the country will also be reformed to meet the present international standards.

Dr. Godahewa said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his policy statement, has given top priority for the revamping of the education system in the country.

The first step to make this vision a reality is to be taken from the Gampaha District.

Every electorate in Gampaha is to be given four national schools under the government’s ‘Siyane Aruna’ project, he said.

“New courses of study will be introduced to the University of Kelaniya and the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute,” Dr. Godahewa said. “New avenues will be created for youth to enter the local and international job market through skills-development programmes.”
