‘Presidential polls pledges not fulfilled’

The present government plans to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament at the next General Election while having no plans to fulfill the promises given to the public during the Presidential Election, the United National Party (UNP) claims.

UNP Colombo District Parliamentarian Mujibur Rahman speaking to the media at Sirikotha, the party headquarters, yesterday, requested the people to think very carefully before taking a step to give a two-thirds majority to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

The prices of vegetables, coconut and even eggs are very high at present, he said.

Speaking on the UNP’s preparedness for the next election and the leadership issue, the Parliamentarian said a final solution to the internal issue would be taken by party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe together with Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

However, the MP pointed out that not only the UNP, but other parties such as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sri Lanka Podujana Eksath Peramuna also has similar internal issues at present.
