No Vote of Account before next year’s budget

The Government will not present another Vote of Account, and instead present a full Budget for the next year following the Parliamentary Elections.

The Vote of Account presented by the former Government prevails until March 31. Therefore, there is no need to present another Vote of Account for another three months, Development Banking and Loan Schemes State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.

He said that several finance legislation to provide relief to the public would be passed after Parliament meets on January 3.

He said the Budget for 2019 would be presented once the new Government is formed under the leadership of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa after the Parliamentary Elections scheduled in April.

He said the Budget speech would be delivered by Prime Minister Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Finance Minister.
