Period for obtaining temporary IDs extended

The Election Commission has decided to extend the time frame granted for the obtaining of temporary ID cards for the presidential election until November 12.

Applications for the obtaining of temporary ID cards for those who do not possess a valid identity in order to vote at the presidential election, commenced on October 18 and was expected to conclude by Saturday.

The Election Commission stated that for those who were unable to apply for temporary ID cards, they could do so until the November 12 by meeting the Grama Seva officer of their area and applying for it.

Meanwhile, the distribution of polling cards was completed by last Saturday and according to the Postmaster General, around 98% of the polling cards have been distributed so far.

He noted that some of the polling cards could not be delivered either because the householders were not at home during the time the postmen arrived or such persons could be overseas.

Therefore he said that if anyone has not received their polling cards so far, they could check with the post office in their respective area and collect their polling cards by proving their identity.
