Three arrested in 2018 fuel station burglary in Horagolla

The Western Province North Divisional Crime Division arrested three suspects who snaffled cash and cheques in April 2018 from the fuel station near the Samadhi in Horagolla, Attanagalla, after a prolonged raid on Saturday.

The mastermind of the robbery had served in the Sri Lanka Army and later worked as a three-wheeler driver operating from the three-wheeler park at the Samadhi.

The suspects are residents of Nittambuwa Orwid Estate. Police investigations revealed that the other two suspects are addicted to drugs.

The three-wheeler driver had been a close friend of the fuel station workers and they were in the habit of having dinner after the fuel station closed for the day.

As the trishaw driver had thus gained a good knowledge of the routine of the fuel station workers, he had planned the robbery with the assistance of the other two suspects who were allegedly intoxicated at the time of the burglary.

The trishaw driver had dropped the other two suspects in a nearby forest and had accompanied the fuel station workers for dinner, during which time the two other suspects had robbed the fuel station. The trishaw driver had brought the workers back to the fuel station and had then fled with the other two suspects. The galkatas which the mastermind had given to the two suspects had been thrown into Athanagalu Oya. Police were able to retrieve the gun and the equipment used for the robbery from the information given by the suspects.
