Salon manager clubbed to death

The manager of a well-known hair dressing salon on Staple Street, Slave Island, Colombo, had been clubbed to death by a group of youths, on Sunday night (11), during a clash between the two parties, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara told news media. According to the police, the 47-year-old manager had arrived at the salon on Staple Street in Slave Island from Modara around 12.30 am at night yesterday along with his girlfriend in a three wheeler.

When they had arrived near the salon a group of youth on the street nearby had teased the girlfriend, which had led to an argument which had escalated into a fight and the youths had assaulted the manager and fled to the Muttiah road area.

The manager, together with his girlfriend, had given chase in the same three wheeler they had arrived in and another fight had taken place on the Muttiah Road, Police said.

The youth had allegedly assaulted the manager with a pole. Having sustained serious injuries in the attack, the manager was rushed to a private hospital in Kollupitiya where he had been pronounced dead.

The deceased manager has been identified as Nimal Anagi Attage, a resident of Payagala.

The youths, aged between 17-24, had fled the scene of the crime but an Air Force mobile patrol had arrived on the scene and the Air Force personnel had apprehended the suspects and handed them over to the Slave Island Police. The suspects are residents of Slave Island, Polgasovita and Kandy.

Police interrogations have led to the discovery of the murder weapon near the scene of the crime. The five suspects who were produced in court yesterday were remanded until August 19.
