Six women engaged in prostitution in a brothel in Rajagiriya, were taken into custody by Welikada Police on Monday.
According to the police, the women were arrested in a brothel at Buthgamuwa Road in Rajagiriya at about 10.55 pm on Monday.
The raid was conducted after a search warrant was obtained by Welikada Police from the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in Hulftsdorp (Court No 4).
Police also arrested another male suspect, working at the brothel as the manager.
The suspects were identified by police as those in the age groups of 23, 24, 25, 27, 28 and 32, residents of Vavuniya, Hokandara, Madagama, Balangoda, Thanamalwila, Borella and Ratnapura.
All suspects including the male were to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court by Welikada Police.
Police are investigating.
