An illicit brewer, who kept a large quantity of illicit liquor in his possession, was taken into custody.
He was fined Rs. 125,000 after he was produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court by officers attached to the Divisional Crime Investigation Unit in Peliyagoda.
The brew is commonly known as Kachal Fanta.
The raid was conducted by police officers attached to the Western Province - North Divisional Crime Investigation Unit in Peliyagoda on Monday.
According to the police, the suspect was arrested at about 10.40 am on Monday on a tip-off received by the Divisional Crime Investigation Unit in Peliyagoda.
However, 75,000 milliliters (100 bottles) of illicit liquor in the possession of the suspect at the time of his arrest, was also taken into police custody.
The suspect, 40, was identified by police as a resident of Thotupala Road, Welisara, Ragama.
Police are investigating.
