A 52-year-old man was fined Rs. 30,000 and sentenced to six months’ RI for abusing a 14-year-old girl on Friday by Kurunegala High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara. The accused, Jayasiri Munasinghe of Polgahawela, was indicted by the Attorney General.
The girl had been abused by the accused when she was returning home from the Polgahawela Hospital on March 7, 2016.
The defence counsel told court that the accused was willing to settle the issue amicably, but the judge refused the request and delivered the verdict. Senior State Counsel Charak Dharmasiri appeared for the victim.
