School circular on collection of development funds cancelled

The Education Ministry yesterday cancelled the circular that prevents schools from collecting funds for development.

The Ministry cancelled the circular on the instructions of Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

Ministry sources said that the Ministry arrived arrived at this decision due to the possibility of corrupt practice.

Accordingly, the Circular on Planning and Procurement for School-Based Quality, Quantitative and Structural Development (26/2018), issued on June 22,2018 with the signature of the former Secretary for Education Ministry, has been cancelled.

Although this Circular was issued to regulate fund collecting activities of schools, it has been revealed to the Ministry of Education that this enables the accumulation of money improperly without the supervision of the Ministry.
