The North Western Provincial Cultural Affairs Department has planned to set up a special village of 25 houses for artistes in the Kurunegala district who do not own any houses or lands.
According to District Cultural Officer P. M. S. Bandara, a plot of land, 20 perches in extent will be granted to each artiste together with a financial donation of Rs.500,000 for the construction of the house.
‘In a recent survey conducted by our Department, it was revealed that there are several artistes who do not have at least an inch of land of their own.
Also they do not have any sources of income, he added.
