Education Ministry to take action against who collect excessive money

The Education Ministry is going to take tough action against the unruly principals, who collect excessive money than approved limits from parents.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed the Education Ministry secretary to trace such errant principals, who collect money violating circulars under the guise of service and benefit charges.

The Ministry has issued circulars denoting maximum limits for service charge and facility charge. But it has been revealed that certain principals have been collecting excessive money violating these circulars and guidelines.

When charging service and facility charges National Schools should get approved the amount, which is going to be charged from a student, by the Secretary of the Education Ministry. When it comes to a Provincial School, that amount should be got approved from the Secretary of the Provincial Education Ministry.

The Ministry requests the parents to make the Ministry aware and lodge complains in this regard by dialling the hotline number 1988.     

Meanwhile the Education Ministry has cancelled the circular that prevents schools from collecting funds for development recently since the Ministry arrived at this decision due to the possibility of corrupt practice.

Accordingly, the Circular on Planning and Procurement for School-Based Quality, Quantitative and Structural Development (26/2018), issued on June 22,2018 with the signature of the former Secretary for Education Ministry, has been cancelled.
