Drug lord’s accomplice killed in shootout

A suspect in a drug ring died on Saturday in a shootout with police at Thulathuoya.

The STF, acting on a tip-off, raided a house in Mailapitiya in search of the suspect.

The deceased, Kutti Muhandiramlage Dilip Rohana Rodrigo (Dileepa) had fired his 9mm pistol at officers of the Special Task Force (STF) while attempting to flee a police raid.

The STF, evoking the right of self-defence, had opened fire on the suspect, who died while he was rushed to the Kandy Hospital.

The STF also arrested a woman who was with the deceased and seized the 9mm pistol the deceased had used.

The deceased was identified as a close acquaintance of the drug lord D. Manju, who was also killed in a shootout a few months ago. The deceased was also on bail for the shooting of Pradeshiya Sabha member Samel Sandaruwan which occurred in 2014.
