20th Amendment to the Constitution needs 2/3 approval, referendum: Speaker

 

Parliamentary Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that some clauses of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution is inconsistent and would require the approval of 2/3 of Parliament and a referendum.

Speaker Kari Jayasuriya made the above statement in accordance to the Supreme Court ruling.

The 20th Amendment to the Constitution, aiming at holding elections for all Provincial Councils on the same date, was scheduled to be taken up for debate in Parliament tomorrow.
